Charlottesville - Monticello/Carters Mountain
Located on the south side of Charlottesville is the charming area of Monticello/Carters Mountain. The region is situated right on the cusp of the county, which provides a much more secluded, peaceful feel than some of the surrounding areas. Even with its removed nature, the Monticello district is set a mere 5 minutes from all of the conveniences of Downtown Charlottesville. Additionally, commuting back and forth between the two areas could not be simpler; Route 20 runs north and south through Charlottesville right to Monticello. Along the way, fantastic views of the city give way to mountain and countryside vistas.

History
Those that appreciate history have much to do in the Monticello/Carters Mountain community. One of the most popular sites in the area is the 550-acre estate of James Monroe, which is known as Ash Lawn-Highland. Guests have the opportunity to view the grounds and the beautifully restored 18th century home on the premises. Michie Tavern is another popular hotspot, as it also dates back to the 18th century. This locale is unique in that it is still operational and serves Colonial fare. Of course, the piece de resistance of the Monticello area is Monticello itself. Thomas Jefferson built this famous World Heritage site, and besides being open for tours, the architectural masterpiece is visible from throughout the district.
