University Area
An area that appeals to investors, professionals and families alike, the University area of Charlottesville is highly diverse. The highlight of the region, of course, is the 1,682-acre University of Virginia campus. The University region is also located just over 1 mile from all of the excitement that takes place at the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville. Residents of this region appreciate a fast pace of life and the opportunity to get to all of the dining, shopping and cultural opportunities they could desire without getting in the car.
Campus Activities
UVA, which was founded by none other than Thomas Jefferson himself, features a gorgeous campus. Historic buildings, vast gardens and winding walking paths are just some of the highlights of the grounds. Tours are available of both the gardens and the remarkable buildings, including the famous Rotunda. Those that value art appreciate the various galleries on the campus, and there are also museums for guest perusal. During football season, Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium, is a fantastic place to watch the UVA Cavaliers dominate the I-A division.
Area Accessibility
Attached to the University of Virginia campus is one of the region's most well-known medical centers, UVA Hospital. This gives residents of the University area access to premium health care, as well as great employment opportunities. UVA Hospital has a great teaching staff, a school of medicine, a school of nursing and specialty branches, such as a children's hospital and a network of clinics. Another highlight of the University area is a 7-block stretch known as The Corner. Here, stores, bars, restaurants and even night clubs come together to give students, staff and residents access to great entertainment options. The Corner is set right across the street from the UVA campus for convenience.
Living in the University Area
Much of the market in the University region is dedicated to student housing, rentals and apartments. The area is a popular choice for investors. There are also some single-family homes that appeal to university and hospital personnel. The mixture gives the area a welcoming vibe for all walks of life.
